Hey Reader,

Zach here,

With 5 of our most popular quick-tip tutorials from August 2025.

Check out how much Blender wizardry you can learn from CG Boost instructors in less than 60 seconds each.

Let’s dive in.

Tip 1: Make Your Blender Character Hold an Object

Jim Morren shows a simple and powerful way to make your character hold a rifle (or any other object) in its hand or both hands using the Child Of Constraint.

This allows us to animate the object and the character’s hands following its movements automatically.

Tip 2: Understand UV Seams Placement

Another tip from Jim emphasizes the importance of accurate UV unwrapping.

All of this can’t be explained in a 1-minute video, but Jim will direct you to our in-depth tutorial where you can learn the fundamentals of UVs.

Once you understand them properly, UVs can become really fun!

Tip 3: How to Make Pixel-Art in Blender

Daniel Nees demonstrates an easy way to create pixel art in Blender using a clever trick with shaders and the Freestyle rendering feature for outlines.

However, the real pixel magic happens by simply reducing the samples in EEVEE and the render resolution to numbers so low that they are only familiar to computer Stone Age men like me. 😉

Tip 4: A Scene Transition Effect with Geometry Nodes

Learn how to make a slow reveal transition effect of a whole Blender scene using a simple Geometry Nodes setup from our 3D robots' overlord, Louis du Mont.

The technique is demonstrated on a scene with a running ostrich-bot (one of the amazing creatures inhabiting Louis’ Robotic Planet course).

A Simple Gradient Lighting Hack

video preview

Martin Klekner is a real goldmine of tips and tricks to make great-looking stuff the easy way. In this short video, he shares one of his favorite lighting hacks - planes with gradients.

While this is technically not a lighting technique, it can imitate some lighting effects effectively without overwhelming your hardware with complex computations.

Here you can also find more of our short videos.

That’s all from me today, have a great week, and till next time.
