We are back with a fresh dose of news, inspiration, and resources from the 3D world. Today, we have a video on how to stick to long-term projects, a free Blender 2D animation course, and a cute Kirby fan animation (with a breakdown). Let’s dive right in. Newsletter Switching to Bi-Weekly ScheduleFirst, we want to explain why we’ve decided to test a new bi-weekly newsletter schedule (starting this May). With the world buzzing with news and so much information and content noise, we want to make our newsletter a place for high-quality, well-curated content that delivers the most value and inspiration. In the spirit of “less is more”, we want to make sure that whenever you decide to open, read, or watch the content we link to, it’s truly worth your time and attention. Now, on to the regular stuff. How to Pull Off Huge Projects and Not Lose MotivationIf your hard drive is full of unfinished projects you abandoned, this video might give you just the tips you need to break free from this ‘on to the next one’ curse. Martin Klekner shares his personal experience with the long-term "Heroes of Bronze" project that he’s been developing for 8 years now 🤯. Along the way, he created short films and other great artworks, not to mention the benefits of the exciting artistic growth journey. What made this possible? Is it the new shiny AI tool or the next most powerful Blender add-on? The secret seems almost too simple to believe, but the fact that it works is proven beyond doubt by Martin’s own example. Free 2D Animation Blender CourseWe’ve shared some cool tutorials from PolyPaint before, but this one is a real treat! A full 2D Animation in Blender course, available for free on YouTube! 🤯 PolyPaint goes through all the steps of creating a (seemingly) simple shot of a cat looking around. He starts with a rough sketch, goes through lineart cleanup and coloring, keyframe 2D animation, and on to final compositing effects. Making one animated shot will not instantly turn you into a pro animator, but it’s a great start that will equip you with all the tools you need to make your dream animation come true. Kirby Bumps Into Something Weird | Fan AnimationThis Kirby fan art animation by Teledidar is a great showcase of Blender’s 2D and 3D animation possibilities. The very essence of this story is about a 2D animated character (Kirby) turning 3D (after encountering and swallowing a mysterious, but strangely familiar 3D object). Using Blender’s Grease Pencil and standard 3D modeling techniques became an opportunity to collaborate (Teledidar invited Nurserik to do the 3D work), and it worked out great. You can learn more about how it was made from this insightful breakdown video. That’s all for today. Wishing you a great week (or two 🙂), and until next time (expect the next newsletter on May 15th). Hey Reader, Hair is one of those features that’s easy to overlook, but plays an important role in making a character feel truly real and alive. Character from Javier Benver “Wild Hair” By the time you reach character grooming, you’ve usually gone through sculpting, modeling, retopology, texturing & shading. Your initial energy and passion can start feeling low, and the temptation to rush your character's hair is real. But this is the very moment to slow down and lean in. Hair can be one of...
