🚀 [Resources] New CG Boost Tutorial, Insane CG Trailer & Free Reality Capture

Hey Reader,

Zach here,

with more exciting news from the 3D world.

First, we have my new Blender tutorial, where I'll show you how useful an often overlooked feature can be. Second, we have an insane Breaking Bad fan animation, and finally Reality Capture is now free for most artists (more on that below).

Vertex Groups Tricks in Blender You (probably) Didn’t Know About

Vertex Groups (and Weight Painting) is a powerful and versatile function in Blender that can help to dynamically control your 3D scenes.

It may sound technical, but it’s actually a tool that gives you a lot of artistic freedom for your 3D creations.

For this tutorial, I created a fun space explorer scene, based on which I will guide you into the space of Vertex Groups and Weight Painting.

Insane Breaking Bad Game Concept Trailer

If you are a fan of Breaking Bad, photorealistic renders and inspiring directing skills, 3D environment artist Piotr Tatar has a treat for you.

An amazing Breaking Bad game concept trailer, entirely made in CG.

He actually photoscanned some of the large environment assets with a drone, and based on the result, it proves the amazing results you can get with a tool like Reality Capture.

Make sure you look through the full project breakdown and study each shot, there is so much to discover and be inspired by.

Also, speaking of Reality Capture...

Reality Capture is now free (if you are making under $1 million/year)

Let's say you're exploring a unique space, and you find an unusually interesting structure or piece of nature you would love to implement into your 3D worlds. This has just become even more accessible.

Reality Capture is a photogrammetry tool, that allows you to create realistic 3D models from sets of images.

Reality Capture is now (basically) free to use from the Unreal Engine Launcher, unless you are a making over $1 million/year. If you are, I’m sorry to say it won’t be free, but also not sorry, because you are making over a $1 million a year 😜.

Download Reality Capture here

Also, the Pwnisher YouTube channel has a great full tutorial on 3D scanning using Reality capture.

Or if you want to dive even deeper into the subject, check out Creative Shrimp's comprehensive Photogrammetry course (affiliate link), using Blender and Reality Capture.

Have fun!

Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. Today I want to share a second, more personal newsletter with you. Last week, I wrote about making art for the sake of art, and about not automatically following the more deconstructive trends in 3D. If you missed that one, you can read it by clicking here. This time, I want to talk about something many of my 3D artist friends (myself included) ran into when a creative hobby slowly started turning into something more serious. My career started as...
