🚀 [Resources] Poly Haven's Game Project + Free Walk Cycle Tutorial + More 3D News

Hey Reader,

We are back with a fresh dose of news, inspiration, and resources from the 3D world.

Please Note: Before we begin, we wanted to let you know we’ll be taking the next week a bit slower as we prepare for Easter and want to spend more time with our families (this may mean a bit slower support). Now back to the news.

Today, we have a community game project from Poly Have (which you can join too), a free walk-cycle animation tutorial, a new ArchViz 3D challenge, and we'll end with an animation inspired by "Scavengers Reign" made in Blender.

Let’s dive right in.

"Project Lighthouse" - A Game made by Poly Haven and the Community

If you ever wanted your 3D models to be part of a video game, this might be the project you've been waiting for all the time. The team behind Poly Haven (every 3D artist’s best friend) is making a video game and invites the whole community to participate.

Anyone can create one or more 3D models for the game and become a part of something great. The game itself will be sold as a paid product (to support the creation of even more free assets), but the 3D assets will be shared freely online as a part of the ever-growing Poly Haven library.

There are also some nice extras and prizes for those who join and add their textured models to the library.

Free Walk Cycle Animation Tutorial

When learning to animate, you need to learn to walk before you run. This great tutorial from Pierrick Picaut is packed with pro-tips on this seemingly simple task.

Building such strong foundational skills for animation is essential if you want your work to stand out. It all comes with practice, making mistakes, and correcting them.

Even with years of experience, Pierrick does this himself in the video, which proves there’s no shame in a little stumble here and there. It’s all part of the process.

A New 3D Archviz Challenge by 3DModels.org

Perhaps you think that architectural renderings are only about nice, realistic shots with a little greenery... well, you need to rethink it!

"Re: Novation" is a new contest for 3D artists that challenges you to creatively transform a building and test the limits of your imagination.

The same 3D model of a house is a starting point for everyone, but the road you take from there is all up to you. Two CG Boost team members (Zach and Jarosław) are part of the jury, excited to see your wildest creations.

Blender Animation Tribute to "Scavengers Reign"

"Scavengers Reign" is an amazing 2D animated sci-fi series with a unique visual style. This animation is a personal tribute to the otherworldly ecosystem designs that were the highlight of "Scavengers Reign".

The execution is great, and at times feels like watching an artistic nature documentary from another planet.

In the video description, its creator, wvhisy, has written some of his reflections on the project, including a bitter sentiment that AI is replacing traditional 3D (however strange it may sound). We think the final result speaks for itself and is a testimony to human creativity. We haven’t yet seen anything made with AI as inspiring as this.

That’s all for today. Have a great weekend, and until next time.

Hey Reader, Zach here, Today is CG Boost’s 7th birthday as a platform. 🥳 Usually, when my personal birthday comes around on October 9th, we celebrate with our once-a-year-only big sale. But in the past at CG Boost’s birthday, we haven’t really done much to mark the occasion. That’s why this year, we wanted to do something small, but noteworthy. What started 7 years ago as a small channel with a big mission has grown into a platform where thousands of artists learn 3D and storytelling...
