Stop talking, take me to the course page 🏃‍➡️

Our new course is for 3D artists who want to master the art of creating cinematic animations and short films.

It focuses on the fundamental skills that many artists overlook, those same skills that can make the biggest impact in storytelling.

Why is it that some older animated movies, despite being technically more outdated, feel far more compelling than some more flashy new films?

Why can lower-budget films outshine massive AAA productions?

How do 3D shorts like Heroes of Bronze and The Lost Tower inspire hundreds of thousands, even millions of viewers?

The answer lies in the art and fundamentals of cinematic storytelling.

From our Veteran Instructor - Martin Klekner

Martin is a longtime CG Boost instructor, known for some of our most popular and insightful tutorials on our YouTube channel.

He’s also created our highly successful Master 3D Environments Course for Blender.

After the completion of his course, Martin focused his efforts on his passion project and short film Heroes of Bronze, which launched on YouTube to a highly positive reception.

Following Heroes of Bronze, Martin spent two years crafting this course, where he poured into it all his knowledge about filmmaking, shot building and storytelling for 3D artists.

His goal was to create a course unlike any other, that not only covers art fundamentals, but also cinematic workflows, while providing 3D scenes and building blocks so you can go straight into practicing your new cinematic skills.

A Cinematic Course needs a Cinematic Trailer

To bring our latest course trailer to life, once again we teamed with the professional animators from ToAnimate to work on the main character animation and the excellent Pierrick Picaut for the character rigging.

We’re excited to share the epic result!

Course Overview

The course is separated into three main parts, including 11 chapters and 120 lesson (9 hrs running time).

Part 1 - Blender Primer & Art Fundamentals

We kick off the course by getting comfortable with Blender’s interface and essential tools and workflows before diving into the core principles of visual storytelling.

There you'll learn how value and contrast shape perception, how color choices evoke emotion, and how depth creates a sense of space and realism.

We'll explore composition techniques to craft visually compelling shots, then bring everything together with lighting to enhance mood, drama, and narrative impact.

Each chapter builds on the last, guiding you step by step toward creating stunning, story-driven visuals.

Part 2 - Cinematic Fundamentals

In Part 2 of the course, we dive deeper into the language of cinema, starting with the 3D camera. You’ll explore formats, frame rates, lenses, types of shots and more, gaining a solid foundation in cinematic composition.

Next, we move into cinematic camera movements and how to set up your sequences of shots to guide your audience’s eye and emotions.

By the end of this section, you’ll know how to craft engaging shot sequences that draw viewers into your story, giving you the confidence to direct and visualize your own cinematic scenes.

Part 3 - Cinematic Breakdowns

In the final Part 3, Martin breaks down how he made the different cinematic shots included in the Cinematic Course Trailer.

The lighting and color choices, camera placement & techniques, and how he set up the sequences. You’ll get an in-depth view on how Martin likes to direct his films, and learn how to apply those techniques to your own projects.

And of course, all the 3D scenes and building blocks are ready for you to download so you can place your own cameras and tell your own stories.

Bonus Asset Library

As a bonus, the course includes an asset library Blender file, with CC0 assets that you can drag & drop into your 3D scenes, so you can easily try out all kinds of shot and story ideas for your exercise scenes.

The library also includes some high quality assets from the Poly Nature Pack: Animated Stylized Pack, which Polyperfect graciously provided for free with the course.

What do our students think?

Before launching the course, we ran a beta test with 31 students to make sure the course is engaging, fun to follow and most importantly delivers on the promise.

This course is film school in a hand grenade: it doesn't seem particularly big at first, but the massive amount of value here will blow you away.

Kyle Heilig

This course gives you a promise to teach you how to become a movie director and delivers it in a full degree. It gives you in-depth understanding of color, lighting, shots, composition, camera movement and other important parts of making a movie, while at the same time giving you interesting exercises to practice earned knowledge.

Maciej Strzyga-Wolski

A fantastic introduction and guide to the art of cinematography. I went from wanting to know more, to now not being able to watch films without noticing the little details. Martin Klekner does an excellent job building from the ground up and showing you how to put together scenes of your own.
