[Resources] A lesson in CGI History

Hey Reader,

Zach here, with another round of useful and inspiring CG and Blender related resources.

Blender Showreel by Julien Herbey

Let's start with an impressive Blender showreel of the personal & commercial VFX & CGI animations by Julien Herbey. I think the quality speaks for itself.

Master Cinematic Lighting

This video is about mastering cinematic lighting in real life. However, all the techniques taught here, can easily be applied to any 3D tool. So, if you need an easy to understand and fun guide on how to make the lighting in your shots (CG or real) a hundred times better, watch the video.

After all, in CG we are filmmakers just in a digital environment. 🎥

A lesson in CGI History with Captain Disillusion

Creating 3D animations and visual effects is relatively easy nowadays. You can do it at home, on your computer with free tools like Blender.

But how was it back in the days? Alan takes us on a very informative journey back to 1986 and how visually effects were made back then, for the movie "Flight of the Navigator".

After watching this video, seeing how complicated it was to create a digital spaceship and put it on film back then, you might feel a bit better, when the frustration hits you while learning Blender and CG. 😉

(Btw. Alan is using Blender to create the CG and VFX for the video itself.)

If you love hard-surface modeling in Blender, then you should check out the "Fluent" add-on, by CG Thoughts. It is an easy-to-use tool, packed with a ton of features to make your modeling life easier.

I especially like the features to add cables, pipes, and cloths with just a few clicks.

But check it out for your self here

That's it for this week, now enjoy your weekend and stay creative!
