It’s time for another dose of fresh inspirations and resources from the 3D world. We’ll start with the hot news about Blender Studio’s new feature film project, followed by a stylized post-apocalyptic animated short and a funny Lego Horror teaser. Finally, we’ll share a handy add-on for making painterly clouds in Blender. Before we continue, a quick reminder about our ongoing Survey. Please tell us what you are currently struggling with and how we can best help you with future courses and content. Answer the Survey here Now let’s dive straight in. Blender Studio is Making a Feature Film!Blender Studio has produced 17 short animated movies since 2006, and the idea to produce a feature film with Blender has long been in the back of everyone’s mind. Perhaps it was the Oscar won by ‘Flow’ that encouraged the team to make the leap of faith, but it’s now official: ‘Overgrown’ - a Feature Open Movie project by Blender Studio is announced! Check out the announcement video here. Producing a feature film is expensive, but as usual with Blender, it’s all in the hands of the community. This is a chance for you to help and be part of something big. All they’re asking for is to subscribe to the Blender Studio website to help fund the project’s initial phase (they aim to reach 7000 subs by September). Subscribers get access to the production files and exclusive training videos. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this project to succeed. ‘Noxious’ - Animated Short Made with BlenderBlooming flowers are beautiful, but they can also be dangerous and powerful. This striking animation made with Blender, shows how plants take revenge on human civilization for damaging their environment. The short film has a great, consistent visual style that reminds us a bit of anime classics. It was made as a graduation project by Kay Hilman, the co-founder of Dot4 studio (we’ve shared their cool cardboard animation before). It’s awesome to see what comes out when Blender falls into the hands of talented and passionate artists. It surely planted a creative seed in us, and we hope something similar started growing in you as well. 🌱 ‘Yellow’ - A Funny Lego Horror Trailer made in BlenderHere at CG Boost, we’ve all grown up playing with Lego as kids, and we’re suckers for cool Lego animations (especially those made in Blender). This horror (take this word with a big grain of salt) trailer is exceptionally well-made, and it really almost made us believe a full movie is coming (that could be really fun to watch). The plot revolves around a mysterious switch in Lego production from yellow-skinned Lego men to fleshy-skinned ones. If you add to that conspiracy theory the fact that Blender’s name came from a song title by the band ‘Yello’, you will know something really suspicious is lurking in the shadows! Booo! 🤡 Stylized Cloud Generator for BlenderIf you’re up for making some stylized, painterly projects that involve outdoor environments, this Cloud Generator from Rei can be a huge timesaver. Martin Klekner has already tested the add-on for his new stylized works, and he shares his good experience with it in this video. Get Stylized Cloud Generator here (affiliate link) That’s all from us today. Have a great weekend, and till next time. Jarosław, Zach & Alan (the CG Boost Newsletter Team) |
