Hey Reader,
Zach here, with another round of useful and inspiring CG and Blender related resources.
"Dynamo Dream Episode 1" by Ian Hubert
After 3 years of work, the first episode of Ian Hubert's "Dynamo Dream" is online. All the 3D work was done in Blender.
I'm super impressed on how alive and detailed the world feels, you can really get immersed quite quickly. This must have been an incredible amount of work.
I can remember his YouTube channel, before the hype around his "lazy tutorials". It had only a few thousand subscribers and very few views on his videos. I'm super glad he went viral with his "lazy tutorials", so this episode now gets the attention it deserves.
Stable version of Blender 2.93 LTS was released
The last version of Blender in the "2.x" era was released, Blender 2.93 LTS (LTS = Long-terms Support - meaning it will be supported with bug fixes for two years from now, which is great for long projects). The next major release will be 3.0 later this year.
In Blender 2.93, we have many new features and bug fixes.
The Geometry Nodes were extended with many new nodes, new Sculpting features like Mask Expand, new Grease Pencil features like automatically generating lines around 3d objects, improved EEVEE depth of field and much more.
Read all about the new release here, and download it here.
Epoch - Blender EEVEE Short
Curtis Holt created a visually pleasing short called "EPOCH", which was rendered in Blender EEVEE. It features shots of 3d scanned statues, mixed with neon lights and abstract shapes.
If you want to learn how it was made, check out the in-depth breakdown.
