Zach here, With a fresh collection of inspirations and resources from the 3D world. Today I have for you: a beautiful pixel-art-styled animated short, a free car game made in Blender, a teaser for a cute Blender animation about sheep and a 3D remake of Akira’s Neo-Tokyo shots. Let’s dive in. Monito Adventures - Blender Pixel Art Short Pixel art is a style that comes from the world of early computer games of the 80s and 90s, but it is still inspiring for artists. Tim Morrow has created a stunning short where he tells the story of a monkey "Monito" blending 3D animation with pixel art. The mixing of those two seemingly separate worlds was done flawlessly. Tim does not only make animations. The game-like look is indeed intended for a game that he is also developing. You can get an interesting look behind the scenes to see the creation process behind this. And if you want to learn more about how this actually is made in Blender, Tim shares a breakdown of his techniques. How to make a game in the current Blender?Have you ever wanted to make a game in Blender (and you miss the Blender Game Engine since it got removed)? Stache made a video showing his process of making a car game in Blender. Well, perhaps it is not a step-by-step tutorial but rather a very entertaining story of how a creative person can use the tools available to make more than you’d think he’s capable of. The video is fun to watch and shows some cool techniques for making a drivable Blender car rig. Stache also shares the files from this project for free (both the rig and the game file) so you can play with them yourself. Akira 3D remake in BlenderIf you’re an anime fan you surely know the iconic 1988 movie "Akira". Yak of Art has recreated its distinct New Tokyo shots in Blender. The attention to detail in this fan-art piece is impressive. The animation has a 3D feel but captures many of the original’s 2D animation aesthetic like colors, shapes, camera motions, and perspective shifts. Sheep vs Wolf - a Fairy Tale in Blender (Teaser)Blender is being used for more and more professional animated productions. This teaser of "A Lamb’s Stew" shows how Blender can produce amazing results in the hands of a talented creative team. The classic fairy tale conflict between sheep and wolves is the background of the story for this cartoon (to be released as a 30-minute film). The protagonist is a young sheep who dreams of fighting wolves like the great warrior hero sheep of the past. Beautiful design, animation, and engaging voice-over (I love that British accent) made me hungry (like a wolf) for more. That’s all from me today, have an amazing week and till next time. ~Zach |
