Zach here, Today is CG Boost’s 7th birthday as a platform. 🥳 Usually, when my personal birthday comes around on October 9th, we celebrate with our once-a-year-only big sale. But in the past at CG Boost’s birthday, we haven’t really done much to mark the occasion. That’s why this year, we wanted to do something small, but noteworthy. What started 7 years ago as a small channel with a big mission has grown into a platform where thousands of artists learn 3D and storytelling together. And this year, for the first time, we wanted to celebrate CG Boost itself by giving back something small to the community that made it possible. Something as small as a frog. To celebrate CG Boost turning 7, I first want to say thank you for your support! Even if you haven’t enrolled in one of our paid courses, simply reading this email, watching our tutorials, and engaging with our content helps keep our mission of making learning 3D and storytelling accessible and fun going. With that said, there are two things I want to share with you: 1. Robotic Planet is 20% OFF (1 week only)Starting today, our Blender Robotic Planet course is 20% off for one week. The sale ends March 13th, 2026 (23:59 CET). Use the coupon code FROG20 to get your discount.
2. New Free "Frog Bot" Beginners CourseAs a gift, we’ve just launched a brand new Blender Robot Creation for Beginners course. As usual with our courses, we focus on a fundamental skill. In our previous beginners course, the focus was on 3D sculpting. This time, it’s hard-surface modeling. And what better thing to create than the Majestic 👑… Mythical 🦄… Mechanical Creature ⚙️… Frog Bot! 🐸 In under three hours, our instructor Louis du Mont will guide you step by step as you create a fully polished 3D scene and looping animation from start to finish. You’ll learn:
And along the way, you’ll discover that this is not just another course about Blender technical skills. It’s also about learning how to take a simple idea, polish it, and give it personality. I believe that’s what gives a project its spark, the small details that make it feel alive, memorable, and uniquely yours.
Now on to our monthly Blender quick tips from the CG Boost instructors and an impressive (but seriously dark) animation by KoalaOK for the Pwnisher Challenge. Add subtle Animation to your 3D CharactersYou don’t have to add lots of keyframes to animate your characters. In fact, a simple noise modifier can do wonders when used cleverly! Louis shows how to do it on an example character of an anxious guy, awaiting a bus for a job interview. Don’t worry, making this yourself will be pure fun, and once you know Louis’ tricks, it will be 100% stressless. 😎 Handing an Object from one Character to Another in BlenderPassing objects between 2 characters in Blender can be a real pain… that is, until you watch this quick tip video from Jim, who guides you through all the pitfalls of using Child of Constraint. You’ll not only learn how to make it work, but also what mistakes to avoid. Animated low-poly Thruster Flame Effect in BlenderMasha shows a simple and effective way of making an animated thruster effect in Cubic Worlds style (but you can easily apply this technique to any style). All it takes is to add an emitter with a simple particle system and tweak it using a gradient texture. It’s a great way to add a real CG Boost to your 3D spaceships (or flame throwers, magic wands, whatever needs to spawn flames and sparks). KoalaOK Tells a Story in a 4-Second Blender AnimationContent Warning! The animation covers difficult topics of trauma, domestic violence, and alcoholism, so caution is advised. The Pwnisher Challenge has come to an end, and KoalaOK (the 2d place winner in the Kinetic Rush challenge) strikes again with another mindblowing animation. It only lasts 4 seconds and moves to a quick music beat, but within these constraints, KoalaOK was able to tell a moving story about family trauma and alcoholism. All of this is in a 2D/3D hybrid style with some noir cinema vibes that amplify the dark mood of the story from a child’s perspective. The video also contains a breakdown of how it was made. That’s all from me today, have a great weekend and another inspiring 7+ years with CG Boost! ~Zach |
