🚀 [Resources] Sonic 3 Trailer, Blade Runner 2049 in Blender, free 3D assets and more

Hey Reader,

Zach here,

With a fresh collection of news from the 3D world.

Today I have a Sonic 3 movie trailer (in which our teammate Daniel was involved in), a tutorial/breakdown of a Blade Runner 2049 scene, a free 3D assets' library, a fun Blender add-on and a trailer of games-inspired animated series.

Let dive in.

Sonic 3 Trailer looks great

I’m proud to say our team member Daniel Nees has contributed to the amazing look of this trailer (as he worked on the compositing for this movie). There is a ton of impressive CGI to be seen in the trailer to get you inspired.

Often the sequels seem to be watered down and not very exciting, however in this case there’s a lot to be hyped about. I’ll just mention Keanu Reeves starring as the main antagonist character and Jim Carrey playing despite declaring a break from acting altogether.

Blade Runner 2049 Shot in Blender

Would you like to create cinematic sci-fi shots such as those in "Blade Runner 2049"?

Ethan Davies - a 3D artist made a great looking animation and shared a detailed breakdown of the process.

He shares a bunch of useful tips and workflows that you can use in your 3D projects. This includes assembling the scene in Blender, texturing in Substance Painter, compositing in Nuke and some color grading in DaVinci Resolve.

Free 3D Assets Library (rileyb3d)

When it comes to 3D assets online, there is a huge amount of them, but if you look for 100% free ones, the selection gets smaller. In most cases you have to be careful with the license if you want to use them for professional work.

This is not the case with rileyb3d’s library. Riley Brown, who is an independent 3D artist (who also shares his knowledge on his YouTube channel) decided to share his 3D models and textures free for all to use (no catch).

Shoot It - Object Spawning Add-on

I want to share a little add-on - "Shoot it" that lets you create fun animations by literally shooting objects into your 3D scene in Blender.

You can see what the effect looks like in this demo video.

Secret Level - A new Game Inspired Animated Series

Amazon Prime Video is preparing to release a new animated series this December called "Secret Level", showcased in this new trailer.

The series is based on popular game titles including "Warhammer 40K", "Dungeons & Dragons", "God of War", "Armored Core" and "Mega Man", just to name a few. If you’re a fan of any of those games - this will be exciting to watch.

High quality is expected, as this is done by the creators of "Love Death and Robots".

That’s it from me for today. Have a great week and till next time!

Hey Reader, Zach here, The other day, in a CG Boost team meeting, we were discussing how platforms are oversaturated with content and images, which can make it feel like, what’s the point of making more content? Then Masha who has been on our team since the very beginning of CG Boost said: The reason I create art is to give life to my imagination. I like the process of thinking about an idea and fully bringing it to life. That encouraged me. Like a breath of fresh air, it was a great reminder...
