🚀 [Resources] Animate without Keyframes, Attack on Titan in Blender, and more…

Hey Reader,

Zach here,

With two new CG Boost tutorials and a bunch of inspiration and resources from the 3D world.

We’ll start with Louis du Mont’s and Martin Klekner's new videos, followed by an impressive 3D remake of an "Attack on Titan" fight scene. Lastly, I’ll share a neat add-on for sculpting creatures in Blender.

Let’s dive in.

Procedural Animation with Geometry Nodes

Louis (Robotic Planet course instructor) has just released a new fun tutorial on our CG Boost YT channel.

This time, he teaches an unusual but effective way to animate a UFO disk that fires lasers all around (don’t worry—they will be under your full Geometry Nodes control).

This video can get you up and running with procedural animations and give you a taste of Louis' great teaching style and quirky sense of humor, which makes Robotic Planet one of our most beloved courses.

6 Mistakes to Avoid when Editing Your 3D Short Films

Martin Klekner has also released a new video with valuable tips on what to avoid in short film editing, on our CG Boost YT channel.

If your goal is to tell stories with animations or film, then it’s not only about making a single perfect-looking shot, but also how these shots are combined to form a cohesive and engaging story.

Martin explains the 6 most common mistakes that can break your visual storytelling and shows ways how to combine your shots "the right way".

If you want to learn more about cinematic art, I recommend checking out Martin’s new Master Cinematic Storytelling in Blender course.

“Attack on Titan” Fight Scene Remake in Blender

Content Warning: The animation contains drastic violence and blood.

Diego Woods created this impressive 3D remake of a fight scene from the anime series "Attack on Titan" in just 60 days using Blender. The shots are very dynamic and the amount of detail is striking. It’s hard to believe it was pulled off by a single 3D artist in such a short period.

The tension in this animation is high, but such is also the suspense in this dynamic vlog video where Diego tells the story of how this project was pulled off. Fun to watch, with some profound lessons to learn from.

“Creature Kitbash” Creature Sculpting on Steroids

If you’re about to sculpt some fantasy creatures - the Creature Kitbash add-on by Jamie Dunbar is a perfect tool to get you started quickly.

It brings a carefully crafted library of base mesh elements that can be combined into fantastical creatures of all sorts. The library comes in two batches: "Beastly Bits" and "Insidious Insects".

Creating a centaur, a bat-winged kitten from hell, or any crazy mutant abomination you can possibly imagine is super easy using Creature Kitbash.

The add-on comes with an auto-merge feature that brings the parts together and lets you jump into sculpting the details seamlessly.

That’s all from me today, have a great weekend, and till next time.

Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. Today I want to share a second, more personal newsletter with you. Last week, I wrote about making art for the sake of art, and about not automatically following the more deconstructive trends in 3D. If you missed that one, you can read it by clicking here. This time, I want to talk about something many of my 3D artist friends (myself included) ran into when a creative hobby slowly started turning into something more serious. My career started as...

Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. It's our Christmas/holiday break at CG Boost, I wanted to write you a thought piece. My goal with this email is to give you a bit of breathing room and maybe help you make a few wise choices on your creative artistic path. I want to start at the end by making two suggestions. Nothing too dramatic, but two clear ways, I invite you to be a bit of a rebel as a 3D artist. Rebellion Suggestion #1 Say no to hustle culture more often. When was the last...
