Zach here, with fresh inspiration and resources from the 3D world. Today, I’ll share a short animation made in Blender about an old lady fighting a dragon, a tutorial on new HDR Video features of Blender 5.0, a beautiful hand-drawn animation in classic Disney style, and our new December Sprint. Let’s dive in. "Phonomenal Battle" - Blender Animation for Adult SwimThis amazing Blender-made animation was created by students from HSLU Animation Lucerne in Switzerland for Adult Swim Europe. If you think that making a delicious Vietnamese Pho soup is a piece of cake, "Phonomenal Battle" will enlighten you that it truly requires master-level skills like those you need to conquer a dragon! Dynamic fight, beautiful painterly textures, and a great finale. What more can you expect from 40 seconds of animation?! Export HDR Video from Blender 5.0 with PolyfjordTechnology is constantly evolving, and a growing number of smartphones and TV screens can now display High Dynamic Range (HDR) video. The new Blender 5.0 keeps up with this new tech, and Polyfjord made a cool tutorial to help us understand what it’s all about and how we can use it to give our renders extra flair when viewed on modern smartphones. To see this in action, watch one of Polyfjord's shorts on your smartphone (that supports HDR). 🤯 "Snow Bear" - Free Animated Film in Classic Disney Style Aaron Blaise is a veteran animator who has worked on such Disney classics as "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", and "The Lion King". His love for hand-drawn animation and nature inspired him to make this beautiful short film about a lonely polar bear. The movie is all about the need for friendship and spending time together, so Aaron and his team decided to create a card game to extend the feeling of the "Polar Bear" story beyond screen time. There’s a Kickstarter campaign for the game running that you can support (and buy the card game). The project also supports a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Polar Bears survive in their natural habitat. No CG Boost Challenge in December - Sprint is still runningAs the year is nearing its end and the Christmas Holidays are approaching, we decided to take things a bit slower and did not run any CG Boost Challenge for December. The Sprint, however, is on as usual. Jump in if you need some additional motivation to achieve one more personal art goal for this year. Join the Sprint here That’s all from me today. Have a great weekend, and till next time. ~Zach |

Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. Today I want to share a second, more personal newsletter with you. Last week, I wrote about making art for the sake of art, and about not automatically following the more deconstructive trends in 3D. If you missed that one, you can read it by clicking here. This time, I want to talk about something many of my 3D artist friends (myself included) ran into when a creative hobby slowly started turning into something more serious. My career started as...
Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. It's our Christmas/holiday break at CG Boost, I wanted to write you a thought piece. My goal with this email is to give you a bit of breathing room and maybe help you make a few wise choices on your creative artistic path. I want to start at the end by making two suggestions. Nothing too dramatic, but two clear ways, I invite you to be a bit of a rebel as a 3D artist. Rebellion Suggestion #1 Say no to hustle culture more often. When was the last...
