🚀 [Resources] Free Open Game "Dog Walk", Car Render Challenge and more...

Hey Reader,

Zach here,

With a new collection of inspiration and resources from the 3D world.

Today is the release day of "Dog Walk" - a new open game made by Blender Studio.

Next, I’ll share a new Car Render Challenge, an Anime Short Film, "White Rabbit" (Blender was used in production) and a "Best of Blender Education" Superhive bundle.

Let’s dive in.

But...before we start, let me quickly remind you that the 20% discount for our Master Cinematic Storytelling in Blender course ends today at 23:59 CEST.

"Dog Walk" - Blender Open Game release!

This afternoon (around 5 pm CEST). Blender Studio is releasing the (second ever) Open Game, "Dog Walk", free for anyone to play.

The game is all about having fun exploring a winter park, walking a cute, big dog. It features beautifully designed graphics in watercolor paper-craft style. The entire project was based on Blender and Godot (an open-source game engine).

You can watch the release party stream on the Blender Studio YT Channel.

I can’t wait to play myself and see what the Blender HQ team has prepared for us.

One Car Challenge for 3D Artists

A new "One Car Challenge" from 3dmodels.org has started, and I’m happy to be part of the jury again.

This one takes me back to when I was early in my 3D journey, and I took a chance at a similar car render challenge on that website (called Hum3D at the time). I won a special prize from PolyBrush with my Final Takeoff artwork in 2016. Taking a look at the Blender Launch Pad course, you’ll see that my obsession with flying retro-cars hasn’t stopped since then. 😁

The current challenge is all about creating a unique render using the provided car model. Your imagination is the limit!

You can join the challenge here

If you’re not that much into cars, but you like 3D challenges and adventures, check out our CG Boost community challenge "The Adventure Begins".

"White Rabbit" - Anime Short with classic 90’s Vibes

Maciej Kuciara (a concept artist, 3D artist, and director, also known from his Art Cafe Podcast), together with Emily Yang and a team of collaborating artists, has released an animated short movie in the style of classic anime from the 90s titled "White Rabbit".

The story is about a mysterious spiritual journey of a young girl, Mirai, who follows a white fox in search of answers about herself, freedom of choice, and other existential questions.

Blender was heavily used in the production of this impressive short film.

Best of Blender Education - Great Courses for 30$

If you want to level up your Blender skills with some top-quality courses, this bundle is a no-brainer!

Superhive prepared a "Best of Blender Education"bundle including such bangers like Kent Trammel’s "Human" Course, Creative Shrimp’s "Hard Surface Modeling in Blender", and many other (30 courses in total) for as little as 30$ (this would be a great price for each single one of these).

The promotion ends on July 24th, so make sure you don’t miss it!

That’s all from me today, have a great weekend, and till next time.

Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. Today I want to share a second, more personal newsletter with you. Last week, I wrote about making art for the sake of art, and about not automatically following the more deconstructive trends in 3D. If you missed that one, you can read it by clicking here. This time, I want to talk about something many of my 3D artist friends (myself included) ran into when a creative hobby slowly started turning into something more serious. My career started as...

Hey Reader, Alan here, I help manage CG Boost. It's our Christmas/holiday break at CG Boost, I wanted to write you a thought piece. My goal with this email is to give you a bit of breathing room and maybe help you make a few wise choices on your creative artistic path. I want to start at the end by making two suggestions. Nothing too dramatic, but two clear ways, I invite you to be a bit of a rebel as a 3D artist. Rebellion Suggestion #1 Say no to hustle culture more often. When was the last...
