We are back with a fresh dose of news, inspiration, and resources from the 3D world. This time, learn to turn 2D drawings into 3D, watch a breakdown of KoalaOK's Challenge-winning animation, and pick up 3 quick Blender tips from CG Boost. Let’s dive right in. How to turn 2D Drawings into 3D Models in Blender (+ Free Add-on)Scribbling and sketching might be the most intuitive way to get ideas from your imagination onto a piece of paper (or a graphics tablet 😀). What if it could be a way to easily create 3D objects as well? In this video, Kevin (Magic Storybook instructor) shows his way of doing this (converting 2D drawings made with Grase Pencil into 3D meshes) using his own (100% free) Inkform add-on that streamlines this process. Pwnisher’s Challenge Winning Animation BreakdownKoalaOK was a top contender in many Pwnisher’s Challenges (and even won 2nd place twice), but this time he finally won first place. He shares his creative process in this video, along with some great tips (and a few jokes). What’s interesting is that it wasn’t the first idea he started with that led to this success. That’s a valuable lesson for bigger projects. Testing your ideas with block-outs and early rough sketches is often overlooked. Sometimes it’s worthwhile to critically assess your ideas and pick the best one early on, to avoid investing hard work into an unpolished idea. Now on to our monthly Blender quick tips from the CG Boost instructors. Easy, Non-Destructive Hard Surface Panels in BlenderYou’ll find it hard to believe how easy you can create Hard-surface panels on your Blender model using this tip from Zach. All you need is a few modifiers, and you can mark the edges where you want the panels to connect. What’s coolest about this setup is that it’s non-destructive (so you can tweak it however you like) and reusable (just copy the modifiers to other models, and you’re good to go). How to Manage Assets and Asset Libraries in BlenderIf you aren’t sure how Bleder’s Assets work, or how to set up your own Asset Libraries, this short introduction by Jim will explain all the necessary basics to get you started. You’ll learn how to turn something into an asset, how to create your asset libraries, and organize them into handy catalogues. How to Avoid the Most Common Bevel Modifier MistakesThe Bevel Modifier is one of those mysterious beasts in Blender that cause confusion and frustration amongst many users. In this video, Martin goes through the most common mistakes that make the Bevels go wonky. Once you learn how to avoid these, the beast will be tamed (mostly 😜). Jarosław, Zach & Alan (the CG Boost Newsletter Team) |
