Zach here, For the past 6 years, our tutor Martin Klekner has been hard at work, exploring all the possible ways to create epic 3D environments in Blender. As a personal challenge, he tried it without the use of any paid add-ons, the results of all his research he accumulated in his Master 3D Environments in Blender course. As Martin’s challenge and his course prove - making awesome, grand scale landscapes in Blender is possible without any additional paid add-ons. Is it worth paying for such tools, then? While there is a great value in knowing your way around Blender and being able to push it to the limits, there are also great benefits in using well-designed add-ons (especially on big projects with tight deadlines). They can sometimes cut down the efforts from hours of tedious tweaking, to minutes. In Martin’s experience, one such super weapon is the Geo-Scatter add-on (affiliate link). From fast scattering to elaborate biome editing, it allows you to fill your CG environments with great ease and flexibility. Martin actually relied on this add-on heavily when making his Heroes of Bronze short film. In the latest tutorial on his channel, Martin guides you through the basic functionality of Geo-Scatter and getting you up to speed with it fast. So, if you’re interested in environment production in Blender, you should definitely try it out, and check out Martin's Master 3D Environments in Blender course. Have fun! ~Zach |
